One of the things I love best about the UK – and would probably love about any country, were I to learn other languages – is the richness of the language. Australians, Brits, Canadians and Americans all speak English, but the language itself has evolved not only in each country, but in areas of the country so that it’s become a superhuman tapestry of one language that really isn’t it’s own.
I learned yet another new word that at first seemed to be a smashing of ‘it’s the truth’ but upon further investigation, strewth or struth is simply a faster way of saying ‘God’s truth’. It’s used as an exclaimation of exasperation or frustration. I picked it up from a new friend I’ve made through a game on Facebook. She says it all the time and it prompted me to make this post.
