Someone somewhere wrote a song many years ago about Spanish Harlem – wherever that is.
Today it’s about British Harlem, in the form of one 7′-8″ giant of a man and the latest edition to the iconic American basketball team, the Harlem Globetrotters.
I love the Globetrotters. I grew up watching them on the odd Saturday morning when one of the networks would show one of their games. It wasn’t until I was in my 30s that I got to see a live performance of these extra-ordinarily talented men (and women) play. They keep coming back to New Orleans in January, so maybe I’ll go again now that “Tiny” is on the team.
Tiny is actually 24 year old Paul Sturgess from Loughborough, Leicestershire, the World’s Tallest Basketball Player (according to Guinness World Record Book). I imagine his slam dunks are less than impressive, but thankfully being a Globetrotter is more than just about being a fantastic player.
I hope Tiny remains with the team for many years. It looks like he will be a fabulous addition to the team, no less than his counter-part, 5′-2″ guard “Too Tall” Hall.
